The Duke Classic

Aloha!

Last year saw the splash off to The Duke Classic - Melville Water Polo's intra Club A Grade Men's Competition.

The four teams are The Saquaremas from Brazil, The Escondidos from Mexico, The Uluwatus from Indonesia and The Mundakas from Spain.

This week the Escondidos will be playing in the first game at 7pm against the Mundakas, and the Saquaremas will be playing against the Uluwatus in the second game at 8pm.

The idea behind 'The Duke Classic' is to showcase a great level of water polo in a fun and relaxed environment. The name 'Duke' comes from Duke Kahanmoku who was the Father of Surfing, history has it that he invented surfing in Hawaii and then brought the sport to the mainland of the US, then on to NZ and Australia. The Duke was also an avid swimmer winning medals at the 1912, 1920 and 1924 Olympics. In 1932 he represented the USA at the Olympics on the WATER POLO team and took home a bronze medal.

Each team is named after a famous surf break from around the world, and as the competition progresses we will incorporate these countries into the poolside festivities!

The bar and the Duke Burger stand will be open for the evening so be sure to tell your friends and family to come down for the Water Polo Luau!

Mahalo!
