FREMANTLE MARINERS WIN THE 2011 NWPL CHAMPIONSHIP
THE 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP IS THE FREMANTLE MARINERS SIXTH TITLE AND ARE NOW THE MOST SUCCESSFUL NWPL TEAM.
Fremantle Mariners Report
The Fremantle Mariners went through the finals undefeated to win the 2011 NWPL Championships for the sixth time, and now become the most successful team in the history of the NWPL. According to the Coach Peter Arancini it was the Mariner defence throughout the finals week that was the difference between winning and losing the 2011 Title.
The final against Victorian Tigers was a very tough defensive game with the Mariners up 4-2 at quater time, and 6-3 up at the main break. The Mariners score the first goal of the 2nd half to take a decisive 7-3 lead, before the Victorian Tigers pulled it back to a 3 goal difference at 3/4 time. The Victorian Tigers stage a superb come back to score the first 3 goals of the final quarter to draw level at 8 all with 60 seconds to go. Tim Cleland who had been a rock in defence all week stepped up to slot home the winner with 36 seconds to go. The Mariners defended the Tigers last attack and deservedly took celebrated on the final siren.
The win was more meritorious with the Fremantle Mariners losing their Captain and Australian representative Jamie Beadsworth to injury during the season, and Aaron Younger accepting a contact with Hungarian Team Szeged for the 2010 - 11 European Season. Joel Swift and Jamie Beadsworth were the two Fremantle Mariners selected in the 2011 NWPL All Star Team.

Longmont Marlins Report
The Longmont Marlins played their hearts out and were desperately unlucky not to be playing off in the 2011 the Gold Medal Game. The Longmont Marlins lost their outside shooter, centre back and Australian Representative Glencora Ralph during the week with an arm injury. The Longmont Marlins started the week well with a convincing 5 goal win over the 5th place Victorian Tigers. The Longmont Marlins drew with the Brisbane Barracudas and eventual 2011 Champions 5 all, which forced them into a quarter final against Sydney University which they won 12-11. The Semi Final against Cronulla was another tight game with the Longmont Marlins going down 9-8 in a hard fought game. The Victorian Tigers got the better of a tied Longmont Marlins in the Bronze Medal play off game winning by 4 goals. Glencora Ralph was elected in the 2011 NWPL All Stars Team
